Washington Low Income Housing Alliance
Fighting for housing justice in Washington State
Framing safe, affordable housing as a human right.
The statewide champion for safe, affordable housing, the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance is a powerful coalition and trusted leader on housing and homelessness. Increasing access to housing involves effective advocacy, policy changes, and consistent, powerful messaging.
For WLIHA, we led two messaging initiatives to determine the most effective message frames, messaging, stories, and messengers among active voters in Washington state. Methodologies included literature review, focus groups, and online surveys. This work included working collaboratively with – and encouraging messaging consistency among – the Alliance’s more than 200 stakeholders and partners.
Within one year of completing our messaging work with WLIHA, the Washington State Legislature allocated $50 million to the Housing Trust Fund, the primary state funding source for affordable housing development.
