Coalition for Climate Education Policy

Analyzing strategic communications as an accelerant for scaling climate education policies

Analyzing communications strategies that have accelerated the adoption of climate education policies.

The Coalition for Climate Education Policy (CCEP) is a diverse, multi-sector, non-partisan network of organizations advocating for federal policies and cross-agency efforts to advance climate literacy in the United States.

To better understand and scale climate change education policy across the country, CCEP partnered with Seven November to conduct a deep analysis of the communication strategies and messages that led to shifts in climate change education policy in three regions. Our methodology included an audit and qualitative analysis of communications assets from New Jersey, Maine, and Maryland; one-on-one interviews with representatives of each jurisdiction (including students); and a study of each location’s policy, curricula, and communications approaches. Throughout the work, we employed an inclusive and collaborative process to bring the coalition's leadership and membership along in the discoveries and recommendations.

The findings were published in a report, Sea Change: Effective Communications for Climate Education Policy, which has since been shared with thousands of advocates.
